An official in the city of Longyan, Fujian province, has been sentenced by a local court to 23 years in prison for graft, bribery, embezzlement of public funds and abuse of power.

Su Yuanguang, who was head of a department responsible for dealing with people from other areas who are forced to move because of hydropower dam projects, admitted to being guilty of the charge of having illegally gained in more than 20 million yuan over the past six years and said that it was mostly used to pay off his personal debts and to invest his son’s company.
