Road and port authorities in Xiamen city are discussing plans to cope with a tourist wave during the first seven days of Spring Festival.

An estimated 500,000 travelers and another 500,000 non-local cars will flock to Xiamen, a famous tourist destination in southern Fujian province, during the week, which will put pressure on road and ship transportation.

A traffic restriction will be based on even- and odd-numbered license plates, according to preliminary plans. The traffic authority also considered turning some construction sites to temporary parking lots.

Public transit will also be enhanced. Xiamen Railway Station will open three more shuttle bus routes to the airport, cruise liner center and the ferry port. The municipal bus company will add 90 more buses on hot routes to alleviate traffic pressure.

The authority of the ferry port has already informed people to book tickets beforehand in order to guarantee a smooth tour to the famous Gulangyu Island during their stay in Xiamen.
