The Xiamen No.3 Hospital reported 2 severe malaria cases to the Xiamen Inspection and Quarantine Bureau in February. Both patients had just returned from foreign countries.
On the sixth day of the lunar January, the Xiamen Inspection and Quarantine Bureau received a report of a malaria case from the Xiamen No.3 Hospital. The report was transferred to the International Travel Health Care Center, a national port key lab for infectious diseases testing that was set up by the Xiamen Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.
The center dispatched an expert to the hospital immediately after receiving the report, who gave the patient a detailed examination and treated him carefully. Thanks to his treatment, the patient’s temperature returned to normal after a one-week-long high fever.
According to the investigation, the patient just returned to Xiamen from Cameroon before the 2015 Spring Festival and had been bitten by mosquitoes there.
On February 27, another citizen, who had just returned from Cambodia, was reported as being infected with malaria. His condition showed remarkable improvement after treatment.
