Deng Benyuan, a deputy to the 12th National People's Congress (NPC), has presented a proposal to call on the nation to support the revitalization of the former Central Soviet Area in Sanming city, Fujian province, at the two Sessions held in Beijing during Mar 3-15.

Deng noted that the revitalization of the Central Soviet Area in Sanming is an important economic task, and can have a demonstration effect on the development of other old revolutionary base areas in China.

It is necessary and feasible for the Central Soviet Area in Sanming to enjoy the same policies as other Central Soviet Areas enjoy in south Jiangxi province, Deng said, and suggested setting up a specific fund to support the construction of projects covering special industries, infrastructure, livelihood and comprehensive environment treatment in the Central Soviet Area in Sanming.

He pointed out that Sanming is a pilot area for national poverty alleviation and reformation, and further suggested the nation include the five impoverished counties in Sanming, including Ninghua, Qingliu, Mingxi, Jianning and Taining, to the national impoverished areas which can enjoy the same policies as state-level impoverished counties.

The restoration of revolutionary historical sites, including sites for the former Chairman Mao Zedong, Premier Zhou Enlai and some other marshals and high-ranking military officers in the Central Soviet Area, is a brook no delay task, Deng added.
