On March 16th, Xiamen issued a yellow alert for heavy fog, and the Koxinga statue on Gulangyu Island was blanketed by spectacular advection fog.
The temperatures in Xiamen have been increasing in recent days, which has made the weather hot and damp.
At around 2pm on March 16th, a heavy fog invaded in the city, turning the city into a fantastic foggy wonderland. The visibility was between 100 and 600 meters, and the visibility in the area around Haicang Bridge dropped to 104 meters while the Dongdu Huweishan Meteorological Station had visibility of only 83 meters.
The experts explained a warm and damp air current from the southwest brought ample water vapor to Xiamen, which made the city damp everywhere as the relative air humidity in the city was around 99%.
According to environment protection experts, Xiamen’s air quality was slightly polluted by PM 2.5 in the foggy day on March 16th, and spring is the season with the highest occurrence of air pollution caused by fog and haze.
The temperatures will be 17 to 29 degrees Celsius over the next two days. Residents are advised to take measures to keep their homes dry.
