The education authority in Fujian province announced an adjustment on policies for extra points in the national college entrance exam, or gaokao, on March 31.
Under the revised scheme, which takes effect this year, students who excel at sports, or have won academic competitions will no longer get extra points in the exam, said an official with the Fujian Education Department.
The change will also affect candidates who hold the title of Outstanding Student in Fujian.
Previously, students intending to study agriculture and forestry at colleges in Fujian would earn 10 additional points. This policy has also been abolished.
Minority students, Taiwan students and children of martyrs and overseas Chinese will still get extra points.
