Xiamen airport employee caught stealing cash from passenger's baggage

According to the surveillance videos provided by the Xiamen police, they found a baggage-sorting employee took Mr. Shi's baggage to the ground 5 minutes after Mr. Shi put his baggage on the baggage carousel.

An employee at the Xiamen Airport was caught after stealing RMB 60,000 from a passenger's baggage to pay back his gambling debt. He was fired by the Xiamen airport and detained by the Xiamen Police for the crime.

The passenger who was stolen from, Mr. Shi, took an airplane from the Xiamen Airport to Yangzhou city on April 8. When he arrived at the Yangtai Airport, he took the VIP channel and got his checked baggage, finding that the RMB 60,000 he had put in his baggage was gone.

Mr. Shi reported it to the Yangtai Airport Police Station immediately, who responded quickly enough to begin investigating the case from the baggage sorting area. They checked CCTV videos from Yangtai Airport and screened related personnel and found nothing, so they transferred their attention to the Xiamen airport and asked for help from the Xiamen police.

According to the surveillance videos provided by the Xiamen police, they found a baggage-sorting employee took Mr. Shi's baggage to the ground 5 minutes after Mr. Shi put his baggage on the baggage carousel. The video also showed him bending over and moving things around for a long time.

The Xiamen airport authorities recognized the man in the video as a long-time employee, Mr. Chen, who denied the accusations while being investigated by the Xiamen police. The police conducted a further investigation, finding Chen had owed a large gambling debt for a long time and just paid it back shortly after the theft incident occurred. Chen couldn't answer for the resources of the money he used to pay back the debt, and has since admitted stealing the money from Mr. Shi.

The Xiamen airport fired Chen and issued an announcement to apologize to Mr. Shi and other passengers.
