The event, organized by the Chinese Culture Union, Association of China Literary and Arts Volunteers and Fujian Arts Troupe of Arts Volunteers brought a variety of programs to Pingtan including calligraphy and photography lessons, arts exhibition, photo shows and performance.
The performances were the most appealing, as more than 200 performers showed up on the stage in front of an audience of some 1,500 who were entertained with songs, magic shows, cross talk and acrobatic moves.
“We’ve attached a lot of importance to this show. Despite a short preparation period, they have managed to bring out the best of themselves,” said Shi Zhenhua, chief director of the performance.
Some officials and artists have called on Pingtan to put more emphasis on cultural development. The following are some of their statements:
Tang Xiaoyan (vice chairman of Fujian Cultural Union): “Culture construction is one thing that can’t be overlooked, as it is an integral part of a region’s overall development. Pingtan, if it wants to promote its brand in the country and the world, must attach more importance to culture creation.”
Fan Biyun (vice chairman of Fujian Cultural Union): “I think Pingtan can promote its image using some calling cards such as the free trade zone, Belt and Road Initiative and the Cross-Straits Common Homeland. It needs more professional for the cultural construction.”
Jiang Zhou (member of Chinese Musicians Association): “I’ve written songs for schools in Pingtan. And I am ready to write some more about Pingtan’s tremendous change over the years. I believe cultural works can fuel economic development.”
