Ali Research published a report entitled "Top 100 E-commerce Cities in China" on June 8, with Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Jinhua ranked top three on the list, and Xiamen ranked sixth nationwide.
Overall volume of online retail sales in Xiamen reached RMB 5.45 billion in 2014, up 50.1 percent compared with the same period of the previous year. Currently, there are more than 30,000 registered e-commerce merchants in Xiamen, and recently e-commerce platforms and e-commerce mobile clients have developed rapidly in the city.
In 2014, the Cloud Startup-Smart E-commerce Industrial Park, with a total area of 105,0000 square meters, was established in Xiamen. Work was also started on the first phase of the Xiamen E-commerce Industrial Park, which on completion will feature a total area of 125,000 square meters. With an operating area of 50,000 square meters, work on the first phase of the Xiamen Cross-border E-commerce Industrial Park has also begun since December 20 of last year.
Three other cities from Fujian--Putian, Quanzhou, and Fuzhou--also made the list, ranking 13th, 18th, and 27th respectively.
