Typhoon Soudelor is approaching southeastern China and expected to make landfall this weekend in Fujian Province, said Fujian’s meteorological bureau on Monday.
Soudelor, the 13th typhoon of the year, strengthened into an ultra strong typhoon on Monday afternoon. On August 4th or 5th, it will reach maximum intensity, packing winds of 60-65 meters per second, said the bureau.
By 5 pm, Soudelor was located at 17.2 degrees north and 142.4 degrees east, 2170 kilometers away from the southeastern Diaoyu islands. It is moving northwest at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour and likely to become stronger.
It will unleash gales and rain, which will significantly influence Fujian around August 8th.
