Xiamen became a "national ecological city" on August 2, 2015, becoming the first city in Fujian and the second city in China to receive the official honor.

Air quality
Xiamen's air quality was ranked fifth nationwide in the first half of 2015, according to the latest report released by the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
Water quality
The overall condition of water quality was good in the city, with no obvious change in the quality of drinking water and sea water compared with last year. Xiamen will invest a total of 388.1 billion yuan in water protection in the next three years.
Marine ecology
Xiamen launched the marine restoration project in December 2008. The city was selected among the first batch of model cities in China for marine ecology construction.
Green coverage
The total area of green space in the city reached 11,172 hectares and green space per capita reached 11.44 square meters at the end of 2014, according to reports.
Noise pollution
The average equivalent sound level was 66.3 decibels last year, and the total amount of road sections that have an equivalent sound level of more than 70 decibels reached 24 kilometers, 6.5 kilometers longer than last year.
