Tropical Storm Koppu is on track to hit the Philippines this weekend (October 17 to 18). The storm might also brush Taiwan and Japan next week.

Koppu is currently battling wind shear, but the potential exists for it to go through a period of rapid intensification while crossing the Philippine Sea, resulting in a very powerful typhoon approaching the Philippines this weekend. It is expected to be strengthened into the 24th typhoon of the year.

Koppu's impact will not be limited to the Philippines. When Koppu turns north it may threaten Taiwan and Japan's southern Ryukyu Islands early next week with damaging winds and flooding rain.

Depending on Koppu's track, the rest of Japan and eastern China may then experience hazardous weather later next week, according to AccuWeather meteorologists.

Xiamen has been experiencing a distinct diurnal temperature difference in recent days due to cold air from northern China. The lowest temperature is predicted to stay around 19 degrees Celsius in the night and the highest temperature is expected to stay around 27 degrees Celsius during the day.
