Authorities in Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, Fujian province recently announced a waiver of costs for cargo container lifting, moving and warehousing in the process of customs inspection, local news portal ptnet.cn reported on Dec 9.

This new policy came into effect on Dec 1 and will have a trial run for one year. Pingtan is the first region in Fujian province to launch such a policy. The trial areas cover the zone's Aoqian Port, Jinjing Port, the Pingtan-Taiwan Duty-fee Commodity Market, the Haixia Bridge and other places under customs supervision.

Local officials explained that the waiver will not apply to fees for cargo quarantine or to companies that fail the inspection.

The policy will help local import and export companies lower costs and optimize the procedures of customs inspection, the officials added.

Yang Cailin, general manager of a Taiwan-funded company, said that this is good news for them because the policy helps them cut costs and improve profits.
