Two ferry terminals to Gulangyu Island, a famous tourist attraction in Xiamen, Fujian province, have adopted a face recognition system to tighten up security and better verify passenger information.
Travelers who take ferries from either terminal have to pass through barriers by swiping their ID cards and having their faces scanned.
The face recognition system can identify people by comparing the face image with their ID photo in a few seconds, with an accuracy rate of over 99 percent.
Many visitors praised the high-tech system. A visitor from Henan said, "The system improves security by preventing use of fake IDs."
