An exhibition dedicated to the costume and lifestyle of the She ethnic group will run at Lin Zexu Memorial Hall in Fuzhou, Fujian province, from Jan 21 to Feb 20.
The She ethnic group is the largest that lives among Fujian's mountainous areas. The exhibition highlights the ornate dress worn by She women, a tradition best represented by feng huang zhuang, an exquisite attire of embroidery, bright colors, and florid headwear. The range of dress was catalogued as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2008.
Other artifacts, including photographs, handicrafts and daily tools, help visitors piece together a picture of everyday life for the She People. Visitors will gain a better understanding of the past and come to learn how the She cook food, earn their keep, and hold vital ceremonies, and pay respect to their ancestors.
