A senior official from the Fujian provincial government opened up about the region's goals for the upcoming BRICS Summit, which will be hosted in the Fujian city of Xiamen in September.

Li Lin, deputy director of Fujian's foreign affairs office, discussed a wide range of possible areas for cooperation with each member of the BRICS club—Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa—during an interview on July 12.

Here is a summary of the proposals Li outlined:

Possible cooperation strategy for Fujian and Russia:

RUSSIA boasts some of the largest timber, oil and gas, and metals resources in the world, while experiencing an imbalance in industrial sectors.

Fujian could import Russia's rich natural resources and export what the country lacks: Textiles, construction materials and electronics.

Li also suggested that Fujian enterprises could invest in resource-intensive industries and infrastructure in Russia.

Possible cooperation strategy for Fujian and India:

INDIA is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. It is one of the largest exporters of software and financial services worldwide. This makes it a great partner for Fujian to develop its information technology industry.

India could also tap its vast potential labor resources—72 percent of the Indian population works in its agriculture sector, which is developing slowly—to develop its steel, cement, machinery and textile industries.

Possible cooperation strategy for Fujian and Brazil:

There are wide-ranging fields for cooperation between Fujian and Brazil, including the petrochemical, minerals, steel, automobile, and renewable energy, because BRAZIL not only boasts rich natural resources including minerals and water resources, but also has a strong industrial foundation and a relatively complete industrial system.

Li suggested that Fujian's textiles, machinery and infrastructure construction enterprises could make investments in Brazil.

Possible cooperation strategy for Fujian and South Africa:

The most developed country in Africa, SOUTH AFRICA sports rich natural resources, quality infrastructure facilities, and advanced manufacturing, agriculture and service industries.

What Fujian could export to the country includes clothing, footwear and bags and suitcases, while increasing imports of primary products such as minerals and metals from it.

Opportunities for cooperation also exist in the power and transportation infrastructure, including railways, roads and ports. Li suggested Fujian enterprises to invest in these areas.
