Fujian ranks 7th in e-commerce sales in China: report

Online sales in Southeast China's Fujian province hit roughly 246.29 billion yuan ($ 39.15 billion)in the January-November period of 2017, ranking it 7th among the 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China, a report says.

China's Guangdong, Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces topped the list in term of online sales, according to the 2017 National Digital Economy Development Report released by Alibaba, China's largest e-commerce platform.

The report notes that with the popularization of internet technologies and promotion of smart logistics, e-commerce in rural areas has now entered the fast lane of development.

Fujian is no exception: the province ranked 5th in online agro-product sales, with Tieguanyin, a variety of oolong tea, Jinjunmei, a kind of black tea and longan being the top three most popular items.

The fast-growing digital economy also created 580,000 jobs in the province during the period last year, the report revealed.

In 2017, national online sales maintained a high annual growth speed of 32.4 percent to stand at 6.43 trillion yuan, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
