In Jinjiang, a county-level city in Fujian, the rural elderly are leading a carefree life thanks to an increasing number of senior care facilities crowd-funded by local government.

Statistics show that, as of Feb, 2018, Jinjiang has established 52 facilities with functions of senior care, medical care and recreational services across the city.

Meanwhile, 38 similar ones are expected to be added in the coming years along with over 500 recreational centers and 270 service stations.

In 2017, Jinjiang was designated as a national demonstration city for its accomplishment in senior care.

The city encapsulates the whole province's efforts in weaving a safety net for the elderly.

Fujian has vowed to make sure that all residents aged over 60 can access basic services by 2020. Currently, it is proactively responding to the new challenges it faces now that the effects of China's aging population are starting to kick in.

The coastal province has 5.3 million residents aged over 60, and this number is expected to jump to 6.2 million by 2020, according to government statistics.
