The city also pioneers in the research and application of NB-IoT technology in China.
The NB-loT network, developed by China Telecommunications, the country's third largest mobile carrier, enables the connection of billions of gadgets through the internet and allows for handy retrieval of the massive trove of degenerated data.
In 2016, China's first NB-loT lab was established in Fuzhou and since then the city has been leading the commercial application of the technology.
As of the year-end, the city is expecting to finish the installment of 300,000 smart water meters built based on NB-loT technologies across it, saving 40 million yuan worth of water resources annually. It will be the largest IoT commercial application project in the world.
On top of the IoT industry, Fuzhou is also pressing ahead with big data industry growth.
To date, a total of 154 companies involved in the big data sector have landed in the Southeast China Big Data Industrial Park in Fuzhou, with the registered capital of 20.5 billion yuan in total. The facility also accommodates two national big data centers, specially designed to boost the integration and sharing of the health information between the government and public institutions.
