Fujian will roll out a series of pilot programs to further enhance its cooperation with Canada for the benefits of both peoples, according to Yu Weiguo, secretary of the Fujian CPC committee.

Yu made this remark at a reception for the delegation led by John McCallum, Canadian ambassador to China, last week, in Fuzhou, capital of Fujian.

The decision was part of the province's efforts to echo the consensus reached between President Xi Jinping and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who paid a visit to China last December, said Yu.

He added that Fujian attached great importance to its friendship with Canada and hoped that both sides would play out their respective strengths to deepen cooperation in the fields of trade and investment, digital economy, and eco-protection and tourism services, and seek greater people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

John McCallum congratulated Fujian on its economic and social achievements, and welcomed the close and profound ties between Canada and Fujian.

He also agreed on implementing the important consensuses reached by the two state leaders, saying he would continue to devote into fostering a closer Canada-Fujian partnership for greater mutual benefits.
