Fujian is set to renovate 1,000 poverty-stricken villages this year across the province, as part of its efforts to protect the environment and upgrade the infrastructure in rural areas.
The province will focus on domestic sewage treatment, garbage disposal, house renovations and public toilet building in those villages, ensuring that at least one flush toilet is built or renovated for each village and the toilet waste is well collected and disposed of.
It will also ramp up efforts to protect and preserve the heritage of famous historic and traditional villages throughout Fujian.
In a bid to fulfill the plan and to raise funds for rural areas, the province will encourage the fostering of new businesses related to rural tourism.
A hundred model villages will also be selected as examples of how the project should be carried out.
