The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour is set to return to China, as Jinjiang in Fujian province hosts one of the installments of the international event on the 2017-2018 calendar this week.
According to the organizing committee, the tour, which brings together many of the world's best volleyball players, will come to Jinjiang on Thursday with 42 men's and 42 women's teams competing for a whopping prize of $ 50,000 in total.
The quarterfinals will be held on Saturday to set the field for Sunday's semifinal and final round matches. The winners will share the $4,000 first-place prizes.
The city will host the second of seven such events in China this season, after the tour hit Xiamen in April.
The tour will also come to Nantong and Nanjing in June, Haiyang in July, Qingzhou in September, and Yangzhou in October.
A county-level city in East China's Fujian province, Jinjiang is one of the largest sports goods manufacturing bases in China.
Statistics show that Jinjiang is home to more than 3,000 shoe makers with an annual capacity of one billion pairs of sneakers. Among them is Anta Sports, China's leading sportswear brand with a market value ranking third globally, behind Nike and Adidas.
The city is also set to be the second Chinese city after Shanghai in 1990 to host Gymnasiade in 2020, after it won the bid to hold the international youth sports event in Oct, 2017.
Relying on its booming sports industry, Jinjiang has previously hosted a variety of international and national sports events, ranging from cycling to basketball and marathons.
