The Hong Kong Federation of Fujian Association held a ceremony on Oct 7, in celebration of the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Hong Kong Federation of Fujian Association, founded in 1997, is an organization composed of grassroots associations set up by Fujian people living in Hong Kong.
The ceremony attracted over 3,000 guests including Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Yu Weiguo, Party chief of the Fujian CPC standing committee.
Due to Fujian's unique geographic location, the number of Fujian people living in Hong Kong reached over 1 million, accounting for over 30 percent of Hong Kong residents.
As the biggest source of Fujian's foreign investment, Hong Kong shares deep cultural origins and economic and trade ties with Fujian, with last year's total trade volume between the two areas amounting to $7 billion.
Lam said Hong Kong Federation of Fujian Association has contributed a lot to the development of Hong Kong and the further communication and cooperation between the two areas.
After the launch of high-speed rail between the mainland and Hong Kong, the two areas are expected to see more cooperation, added Lam.
Yu Weiguo highly praised the achievements of the Hong Kong Federation of Fujian Association in safeguarding national unity after its foundation in 1997.
He hoped the association could keep boosting cooperation between Fujian and Hong Kong and pass down their patriotism generation after generation.
