The 2012 Cross-Straits Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition opened in the Hainan Provincial Museum on August 22 in Haikou, the provincial capital. The exhibit hosts 80 artistic works from famous painters and calligraphers from both the mainland and Taiwan.
Artistic masters participating in the exhibit include: Lin Fan, honorary chairman of the China Traditional Chinese Realist Painting Association; Wang Shuping, director of the Chinese Artists Association; Yang Mingyi, disciple of Zhang Daqian (a master in traditional Chinese painting) and a top-notch painter in the nation; and many famous artists from Taiwan.
At a preceding activity held on August 21, artists jointly created a 9-meter-long painting named "Cross-Straits Brotherhood" to express their love for the motherland.
From August 23 to 26, the artists visited the province's traditional villages, which are home to the Li and Miao ethnicities. They also toured Betelnut Valley (a cultural sightseeing spot) and a rubber plantation to sketch the beautiful scenery.
The sponsors of the exhibit include the Taiwan Affairs Office of Hainan, the Hainan Provincial Department of Literature and Arts and the Cross-Straits Economic Cooperation and Cultural Exchange Center (Beijing). It was organized by Zixuan Culture Development Ltd.
