As of April 8, a total of 101 Taiwan-invested enterprises have settled in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, Fujian province, according to the Pingtan radio and TV station.

Before the establishment of the pilot zone in the second half of 2009, built to boost communication between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, there were only four Taiwan-invested enterprises in Pingtan.

The aggregate investment by the 101 enterprises amounts to $318 million, a 27.5-fold increase from four years ago. The $195 million in registered capital represents an increase of 30.21 times.

In the first quarter in 2013 alone, 19 Taiwan-invested enterprises have come to Pingtan, a 280 percent year-on-year increase.

The flourishing investment environment can be attributed to preferential policies by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, which include simplified registration procedures, protection of enterprise rights and a better mechanism for industrial and commercial management, said Gao Zhuqin, an official from the local business bureau.

"Based on those investment-encouraging polices, the Pingtan administration for industry and commerce has also come out with fast, convenient service channels to attract more Taiwan enterprises to invest here," she added.
