Entrepreneurs from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan have called on small and medium-sized companies in Taiwan to settle in Pingtan county, Fujian province, to expand their market.
The suggestion was put forward at a business summit in Taipei on Thursday, April 25, where entrepreneur delegates talked about developing Taiwan's industrial clusters in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone.
Being the Chinese mainland's closest point to Taiwan, Pingtan has the edge in logistics, making it a perfect experimental field for Taiwan's small and medium-sized firms to expand in the mainland.
Liu Jianguo, president of the Taiwan Open Platform Association, proposed that the enterprises in Taiwan should focus on integration of funds, logistics and information resources to step up cohesion and develop its dominant sectors in fishing, agriculture, animal husbandry, raw and cooked food production, and food processing in Pingtan.
Consensus at the summit is that the Chinese mainland is the largest market in the world, and a significant one for Taiwan. Small and medium-sized enterprises should take the opportunity to settle in Pingtan and gradually expand their market to other places on the mainland.
