The first ever civil aviation airport in Pingtan county, Southeast China's Fujian province, will be built by 2015, said Fujian government authorities Tuesday, May 9.

New airports will be constructed in Shaxian county, Putian city, Quanzhou city and Pingtan county during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) period to create an interconnected region separated by 1.5-hour flights within the province, said the provincial government in a notice.

To boost cross-Straits communication, more flights to Taiwan will also be launched, said the notice.

Fuzhou and Xiamen will earmark no less than 50 million yuan ($8.1 million) annually in the next five years to support the development of civil aviation. The other cities in the province will spend no less than 30 million yuan, according to the notice.
