A top official in Pingtan county, Fujian province, said the local military recruitment office should keep up its efforts this year, after exceeding expectations last year.
The county will continue to fulfill its mission to bring more young talents to the country's army this year, said Gong Qinggai, director of the Pingtan administrative committee, at a meeting on military recruitment on Thursday.
He also said that fresh graduates of high schools and colleges are preferred as they are seen as high-quality military recruits - and can register before other candidates.
The military recruitment period in China has changed for the first time in 23 years, and physical checks will start this year on Aug 1 and end on Sept 30. (The period previously started on Nov 1).
Agencies and individuals who made a special contribution to last year's military recruitment process were honored at the meeting on Thursday.
