Construction of a new wharf at the Dong'ao Fishing Port in Pingtan, Fujian province came to an end on Aug 20, reported local news portal ptnet.cn.

The Taihuo (literally Taiwan Cargo) Wharf is specially for docking a freight ship commuting between Pingtan and Taiwan. It will go into operation after examination by local customs authorities, according to Chen Daohe, manager of a local port development company.

Cargo imported from Taiwan to a local commodity market will be unloaded at the wharf before being transported to the market. The wharf will serve as a platform for imports of frozen aquatic products, he added.

An aquatic market is being planned near the wharf to prepare for growing trade between Pingtan and Taiwan.

The company has set up a subsidiary to manage the wharf. It is also preparing paperwork for its official inauguration, said Chen.
