An award ceremony for a cross-Straits new design competition, dubbed the "Huacan Award", was held at the Taiwan Innovation Park in Pingtan, Fujian province, on Nov 3.
This year the event, with a theme of integration, aimed to encourage and promote exchanges between students and young designers on the Chinese mainland and in Taiwan. It received nearly 20,000 entries from over 1,000 universities and institutions. Based on a strict evaluation by a group of prestigious experts, a total of 29 designers from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, and Macao won the award.
More than 500 representatives, including government leaders and designers, attended the award ceremony.

After the ceremony, an exhibition was organized with over 80 selected works on display, which attracted a great number of visitors, many of whom said that they were impressed and enlightened by the creative designs.
Since its inception by the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang in 2014, the event has been dedicated to discovering talented young designers and promoting the development of the mainland's design industry.
A forum on cross-Straits youth innovation and entrepreneurship was launched on the same day. The forum has been held for five consecutive years and has become a top event for cultural exchange between young people across the Straits.
