The Pingtan-Taiwan Duty-Free Commodity Market, a 3A national scenic spot in Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, Fujian province will play host to its first tourism and culture festival during the upcoming Spring Festival, local news portal ptnet.cn reported on Jan 14.
The event aims to give local Taiwan residents an opportunity to celebrate the Taiwan-style Lunar New Year and enable the natives to gain a better understanding of Taiwan culture. It is conducive to enhancing the friendship between people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits.
The organizers said that they will cheer all the people up with plenty of excellent activities including a lucky draw, a music concert, lantern show and many more.
And the market will also be decorated with many Taiwan elements. One highlight of the decoration is a giant bamboo-made cucurbit. This is due to Taiwan people who are fond of decorations with artistic and cultural meaning.
Notably, the pronunciation of cucurbit in Chinese is similar to that of the auspicious words “Fulu”, which means happiness and wealth. The cucurbit has 3.5 meters high and 2.2 meters wide. Inside it, there will be a circle of chairs for visitors to take photos. Visitor will also see five lamp posts surrounding it, on which will be images of Taiwan's famous landscapes, traditional culture and customs.
