Authorities with Pingtan public security bureau, Fujian province announced on Jan 19 that they have issued five-year Mainland Travel Permits (MTP) to more than 10,000 Taiwan people, since last September when they got approval to do so, local news portal ptnet.cn reported.
This result was attributed to the authorities' innovative measures and high efficiency. For instance, local public security bureau set up agencies in Taiwan's Taipei and Taichung cities. Taiwan people who want to apply for the MTP can submit their applications at the agencies and send them to the Pingtan public security bureau online.
The Pingtan bureau will complete all procedures, including approval and card-making, in one and a half days, which is incredibly time-saving. To ensure that the applicants can get their permits as soon as possible, the officials are also on duty to deal with the applications at weekends or during holidays.
The officials said that they expect more Taiwan people will get the permit through their hard work and come to Chinese mainland, which will be conducive to enhancing cross-Straits cooperation and exchanges.
