Since December 2014, when the customs zone of Pingtan, Fujian province, started to admit the commodity certification of Taiwan's Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection and the test results of the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation, it has been easier for Taiwan's liquor and home appliances to pass through.
This innovative measure caused a surge of imported liquor and home appliances from Taiwan. So far, Pingtan has imported 755 shipments of those products, worth $10.4 million, according to the local entry-exit inspection and quarantine bureau.
People who run related businesses in Pingtan spoke highly of the policy. Chen Wanzhen, who works for a dealer of the Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor Corp, said that the policy helps lower merchants' cost.
Local authorities also said that the policy has strengthened cross-Straits exchange and cooperation in customs inspection and quarantine and made cross-Straits trade more convenient.
