Pingtan promotes close ties with Taiwan

Pingtan, the closest island on the Chinese mainland to Taiwan will take advantage of its unique geographical location to further its close relationship with its cross-Straits neighbor.
Zheng Kang, deputy chief of Economic Services Bureau of Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, paid a visit to Pingtan on Aug 31. During his stay he said bureau will continue to roll out more preferential policies to support the Pingtan's development, exploring a new mode of cooperation between the two sides.
Zhang Zhaomin, party chief of Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, said the county has witnessed rapid development in transportation, infrastructure and special industries in recent years. And that it will further enhance economic, social and cultural cooperation with Taiwan, giving impetus to deeper cross-Straits integration.
Pingtan is located in a pivotal position in the newly established water-railway intermodal transportation route connecting Taiwan and Europe, which links the ancient Silk Road with the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.
