The popular Taiwan TV documentary series Wonders of China is currently shooting an episode in Pingtan, Fujian province.
The show, which has been running on the major Taiwan network China Television (CTV) since 1990, introduces viewers to the wonderful scenic spots, historical relics and folk customs on the Chinese mainland and enjoys widespread popularity in Taiwan.
According to Su Zhizong, the show's producer, Wonders of China has played an important role in boosting cross-Straits ties over the years.
"Many young people in Taiwan have got to know the mainland through the program,"said Su.
In the past 26 years, the documentary crew has shot all over China, including the far-flung autonomous regions of Xinjiang and Tibet. But this is their first time shooting in Pingtan, the closest mainland city to Taiwan.
"Taiwan people don't know too much about Pingtan. The only stuff they know is that the city is the only comprehensive pilot zone on the mainland for businesses from Taiwan. Filming in Pingtan shall greatly improve Taiwan people’s awareness of the city," said Su.
