Zhanjiang's provincial CPPCC delegation warms up for two sessions
By Shen Yi Updated: 2016-01-27
The 12th Guangdong Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the governmental policy advisory body, opened its fourth session in the city of Guangzhou, the provincial capital of Guangdong on Jan 25. During the first-day meeting, Zhanjiang's delegates expressed their ideas and exchanged their views on some issues related to the city's future development. Here's a look at some of their views:

Liu Xiaohua, Party secretary of Zhanjiang: the next five years is a period for Zhanjiang to give a full play of its potential
During the period of the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15), the annual increase of fixed-asset investment in Zhanjiang has reached 26.5 percent, ranking the first in Guangdong. It proves that we have had a firm foundation for industrial development in the city. Although we have not forged large-scale production or produced huge economic benefits, I think the 12th five years is a period for spreading seeds and the next five years is for harvest. So the period of the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) is surely for Zhanjiang to give a full play of its potential.

Wang Zhongbing, mayor of Zhanjiang: Zhanjiang will see sweeping changes through the development of high speed train system
Zhanjiang people have been aspiring for better accesses to expressways and trains for years. In 2017, high speed trains will serve between Jiangmen and Maoming cities, both are close to the Pearl River Delta. The train routes will also be through Zhanjiang and it will only take two and a half hours from Zhanjiang to the areas in the Pearl River Delta then. High speed trains will bring a brighter future for Zhanjiang.

Chen Xiaoying, director of Zhanjiang customs office: a hope of Zhanjiang's inclusion into the pilot zones for international e-commerce businesses
Zhanjiang is a coastal city open to the outside world, but compared to the Pearl River Delta, it is weaker in transportation. Zhanjiang people do not enjoy a high salary but have to afford the consumer goods priced the same or even higher than those in the Pearl River Delta. I'd like the provincial government to consider the inclusion of Zhanjiang into the pilot zones for international e-commerce businesses. It is a common aspiration of Zhanjiang locals and the city is advantageous in this aspect. The inclusion will take a positive effect on the development of Zhanjiang's outward-looking economy.
