Hangzhou topped the list of 10 Chinese cities that deserve to be introduced to the world, according to 100 recommendations and analysis by more than 100 experts from home and abroad. The other cities are: Chengdu, Dalian, Qingdao, Xi’an, Harbin, Luoyang, Pu'er, Shigatse and Jilin.
An award ceremony for the 10 cities most deserved to be introduced to the world was held at the Beijing Exhibition Center on Wednesday evening.
Both Chinese and foreign experts put Hangzhou on the top of the list. Yuan Li, a famous expert of folklore and also a judge of the competition, said before yesterday’s ceremony that Hangzhou represents the development trend of advanced cities in China.
"In Hangzhou, children of migrant workers' study together with the local residents. The city also has a wetland called Xixi, which has been protected by the government for future generation. Hangzhou is a city with a harmonious combination of mankind and nature and is a city where the living situations of minorities are highlighted. Hangzhou is the best example of a harmonious society." said Yuan.
This event is co-sponsored by more than 100 media outlets and institutions including CCTV, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the United Nation’s Development Programme (UNDP) and National Geographic. The competition aims at selecting a group of Chinese cities which deserve to be introduced to the world with the standards of “Green, Civilization, Vitality and Harmony”.
