A weeklong promotional campaign for Hangzhou as part of the publicity drive for the 2010 World Expo was inaugurated in Shanghai on June 17. The campaign, co-organized by the Shanghai World Expo coordination bureau and Hangzhou municipal government, will last until today.
The promotion week with a theme of "Exciting Expo, Quality Hangzhou" focused on the scenic city of Hangzhou and its participation in the 2010 World Expo.
Organizers introduced the famous sights and attraction of Hangzhou such as the West Lake along with the history of the West Lake Expo which could be dated back to 1929 and its historical relations with the World Expo.
They also organized a series of online (at www.xh-expo.com) and offline activities for visitors to participate in and win prizes.
The project "Harnessing Five Waters", which has been selected as one of over 55 projects displayed as the Urban Best Practice Area of the 2010 World Expo was the highlight of the promotion week.
"Harnessing Five Waters" is a combination of various art forms and high technology, containing water collected from various lakes and rivers in the areas including West Lake, the Qiantang River, the Xixi Wetlands and the East China Sea.
The project aims to show the city's great efforts and innovation to combine the green design and urban construction, which is in line with the theme of 2010World Expo ——"Better city, better life."
The project of "Harnessing Five Waters" will be presented with other projects from cities around the world during next year's World Expo to show their ideas of solving environmental problems and promoting the sustainable development of urban areas.
Hangzhou has started preparation for its presentation at the Shanghai World Expo since 2007. During the World Expo next year, the Hangzhou pavilion will cover an area of 399 sq m in six parts with different themes. |
