On the night of Sep 26, the surging Qiantang River was singing for the nation. The 1st Zhejiang Culture and Art Festival was staged on the Qianjiang New City Square. Provincial officials and military officers like Zhao Hongzhu, Lu Zushan and Zhou Guofu, senior retired provincial leaders like Xu Ju and Li Zemin, and municipal leaders like Wang Guoping, Cai Qi and Sun Zhonghuan were present at the opening ceremony.

The “Grand Canal” by Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra lifted the curtain, following by “Red Boat Bound for Future” depicting Chinese people, under the leadership of Communist Party of China, fought against all kinds of difficulties for a rejuvenation of the great nation. “My Chinese Heart”, a song expressing the feelings of Chinese descendants living all over the world, was also presented. “Tea-picking Song”, a Zhejiang folk song, was moderated by Premier Zhou Enlai 50 year ago when he investigated in Zhejiang. The gala show, boasting Zhejiang culture and spirit, was also contributed to China’s 60th anniversary.

Themed by “Gala for Arts and People”, the festival will stage entertainment shows by professionals and common people, visual art exhibitions and excellent movie exhibitions. Hangzhou being the main venue, 33 shows will be put on in the other ten cities around Zhejiang.

This pioneering integration of art resources from all over Zhejiang characterizes this festival. In Wenzhou, the latest art creations will be presented. People in Huzhou will enjoy the “Land of Tai Lake”, a grand show of local customs, music, dance and poetry. Zhoushan will focus on picturing the local ocean cultures in their shows. The art festival will last from Sep 26 to Oct 11.
