Hangzhou may host a regional forum of World Economic Forum (WEF) next year, according to a senior official from the WEF.
Yu Jiang, a chief officer of the WEF’s China Office, said they plan to host some industry and regional forums next year to discuss issues concerning both governments and enterprises and hoped Hangzhou would be a host city.
Yu made the remarks when visited the city lately, and met officials with the Hangzhou Municipal Council for Promotion of International Trade.
Local officials showed great interest in his invitation. Jiang Jindong, vice president of the council, said the council will call on the municipal government to host the event.
The two sides will meet to discuss details of the cooperation later, he added.
The council says they hope hosting such forums will promote exchanges of ideas among enterprises, industries and governments as well as boost intentional trade and cooperation between Hangzhou and the rest of the world.
The WEF is commonly known as the Davos Forum as its annual meeting is held every January in Davos, Switzerland. The WEF, in cooperation with China, also organizes the Summer Davos Forum, aimed at establishing a platform for political leaders, business leaders, and economists to discuss pressing issues facing the world.
