Expo success highlights opportunities in Chinese market

PTC ASIA 2009, the leading trade fair for power transmission and control, will run at the Shanghai New International Expo Center from 26 to 29 October. The event will cover a total display area of 70,000 sq m and accommodate over 1,300 exhibitors from 27 countries and regions.

Some 60,000 trade visitors from over 80 countries are expected to attend the fair. As the equipment manufacturing industry plays a significant role in economic restructuring, the event is expected to benefit from Chinese government's stimulus policies.

High-quality show

Organized by the China Hydraulic, Pneumatic and Seals Industry Association, the China General Machinery Parts Association, Deutsche Messe AG and Hannover Milano Fairs Shanghai Ltd, the PTC ASIA 2009 event is set to break records in terms of display coverage, exhibitor numbers and technical content.

Industrial leaders in the fluid power sector are actively participating in the show, including Bosch Rexroth, Stauff, Parker Hannifin, Metalwork, Pneumax, Camozzi, NOK, SKF, Beijing Huade, Yuci Hydraulics, Guizhou Liyuan and Shanghai Electric Hydraulics & Pneumatics.

A number of leading enterprises in the mechanical power transmission sector are also attending the fair, including SEW, Siemens, Bonfiglioli, Nissei, Hangzhou Advance, JIE, Wulf, KMC, Shijiazhuang Sprocket, Donghua Chain, Optibelt and Gates Unitta. Several Chinese industrial giants from the compressed air technology sector have also booked stands at the show, namely Mann+Hummel, Boge, Kaishan, Union Tech and Sotras.

Though adversely affected by international anti-dumping practices, a number of fastener and spring manufacturers are making a renewed effort to expand the global influence of their brand and products. Exhibitors in this sector include SQB, SPS, Donggang, China Spring Factory, Luoyang Machine Tool.

The trade fair has also excited considerable interest from the bearing industry, including representatives from Firstbridge, GGB, LFD and Redman. A number of SMEs and Taiwan businesses are also actively participating in this year's show, with the hybrid power sector attracting more exhibitors than ever before.

Providing a welcome stimulus for the power transmission industry, the event's meeting of domestic and overseas powers is set to prove, once again, the status of PTC ASIA 2009 as the largest exhibition of its kind in Asia and the second on a global basis.

Even though a number of businesses are not attending PTC ASIA 2009 as a result of economic crisis, the show has still attracted a large number of new participants, including UTEC, Hardinge, Shell, Hardlock, Precision Metal, HHK, Gold Lion, Elcee, Cronos, Aemeke and Fomas.

The event has also attracted exhibitors from the UK, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, US, South Korea, China's Taiwan province and several other countries and regions from across the world.

United with academia

The event will this year debut its "High-tech Display Area", showcasing a series of domestic hi-tech achievements from the last 12 months.

Some 12 forums focusing on hybrid power, pneumatics and sealing detection technology will also be set up in the onsite negotiation area.

Commenting on the prospect for the 2009 event, Deutsche Messe Board member, Dr. Andreas Gruchow, said: "The fact that PTC ASIA 2009 is engendering hugely positive feedback in Shanghai signals a new trend, one that is bucking the economic global recession.

"We take it as a signal for economic upturn in this market. In fact, the Chinese government's stimulus package has substantially benefited both the power transmission and fluid power industries. It is with these incentives in mind that foreign suppliers manage to maintain their market share in China, despite the tough economic environment."
