Study hometown without books

2009-October-19 14:03:34

These days, the campus of Changshou Bridge Primary School is bustling. More than 200 teachers from Zhejiang Province gathered here to discuss “how to let the primary school students know about their hometown”.

Yesterday morning, Ms. Liu Peifen from Changshou Bridge Primary School gave an example class named The Weather and Us. To our surprise, all the students came to the class without books. Instead, Ms. Liu took out meteorological symbols in card, weather record and so on from her bags, which was obviously much more interesting than the textbooks.

Ms. Liu, who also teaches verbal class, said local knowledge is the most popular class in school because no examination is required for this course while the influence of it lasts for a long time. It is a proud to Ms. Liu that during the National Day holiday, to their surprise, many parents found their children who have never been to that place before were quite familiar with the local culture. And this is attributed to the local knowledge.
