China’s first wetland museum inaugurated in Hangzhou

China Wetland Museum, the country's first of its kind, opened to visitors on Monday in the Xixi National Wetland Park, west of Hangzhou.

The 20,200 sq-meter museum has four halls: the Hall of Introduction, the Hall of Wetlands and Mankind, the Hall of China and the Hall of Xixi Wetland.

With vivid models of animals and plants and interactive multimedia technologies, the four halls present visitors the threats facing the wetlands, global actions on wetland protection as well as the colorful world of wetlands and their ecological function. One visitor, Alison Russell-French, president of Birds Australia, said she admired the museum’s display and Australia should set up a wetland museum too.

Xixi, the first and so far the only national wetland park in China, covers an area of 3.46 square kilometers and features abundant ecological resources, beautiful natural scenes and a rich cultural heritage dating back many
