Hangzhou International Animation College of Hangzhou Normal University, located in east Zhejiang’s Hangzhou city, opened on Nov 26. As of now, there are nearly 20 animation colleges in Zhejiang province and 477 in China.

“Our college aims to develop education animation, which means to compile teaching materials into cartoons, and research Hangzhou-related animation products,” said Huang Yan, a teacher at the college.

An animation expert from Teesside University in Britain will assume the position of vice dean. Hangzhou International Animation College has signed a cooperation agreement with Teesside.

Teesside is renowned for its animation production. Part of the animation in the movies “Harry Potter” and “Lord of the Rings” were made by its graduates. The university also hosts Animex, an international animation festival for top animation producers around the world.

Hangzhou International Animation College will officially recruit students from 2010.

In the third quarter this year, companies in Hangzhou produced 22 creative animations, topping the whole nation.
