Bottler says drinks safe

2009-December-2 17:16:39

Officials at Taiwan-based beverage maker President Enterprise Corp said yesterday its Peachate, a peach juice drink, has below the accepted level of 0.1 mg of arsenic per liter through a test conducted by Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine.

Haikou's Industrial & Commercial Administration Bureau said on Nov 23 that the company's product Peachate manufactured by its Guangzhou-based producer on Aug 22, together with two of Nongfu Spring's fruit beverage products, was contaminated by the toxic chemical arsenic.

Company officials said that more than 600 boxes of the implicated products in Haikou were pulled off the shelves. Officials say they will not put them back on the shelves again no matter what the test results show.
