To demonstrate the theme "Better City, Better Life", the UBPA (Urban Best Practice Area) has been specially inaugurated in Shanghai World Expo, in the hope that everyone can have an idea of those creative solutions adopted by different cities across the world regarding developmental obstacles.
The Hangzhou Pavilion, which is located in UBPA, presents the theme “harnessing the five waters.” On April 6th, Hangzhou World Expo Committee said the Hangzhou Pavilion would be completed on April 12th, in test operation from 20th to 25th and fully opened to visitors on May 1st.
The design of Hangzhou Pavilion focuses on the relationship between water and people’s lives. It aims to convey the idea of controlling five waters (the West Lake, the Canal, the Xixi Wetlands, Qiantang River and the East China Sea) as a means to achieve a beautiful life through four methods: reading the water, talking about the water, listening to water and tasting the water.
The committee also showed the public the specially-offered bottled water. The bottle is light blue and octagonal, sharing a similar appearance with the decorative Longjing water brick inside the pavilion. All the one million bottles of water were sponsored by Wahaha Group. Every visitor to Hangzhou Pavilion can get a bottle free of charge.
In addition, some other products from Hangzhou can also be found at the World Expo. Sixty percent of flowers in Expo Park are from Xiaoshan, Hangzhou. Zhiweiguan makes its entrance to the World Expo Famous Snacks Exhibition and Wanshili is the designated souvenir supplier.
