According to the bureau of housing and urban-rural development in Kunshan, the reconstruction of old residential areas in 2014 has been initiated on a broad scale, covering 15 old communities, 29 dwellings, 465 houses and 5,321 families making a total construction area of 530,000 square meters.

Combined with the urban environment improvements in Jiangsu, the renewal project encompasses overall measures including separating rain and polluted water, the transformation of the municipal infrastructure, environmental renovation, improving living conditions and so on. Until now, the transformation of five old communities and nine dwellings has started and the preparatory work in other communities is progressing smoothly.
