Liangxi district serves as the downtown area of Wuxi, made up of the former Chong'an, Nanchang and Beitang districts which had been defunct since October 2015. It covers an area of 71.5 square kilometers and administers 16 sub-districts, with a permanent population of 950,000.
The Liangxi district borders Xishan district to the east, Huishan district to the north and west, and Binhu district to the south. It is the political, economic and cultural center of Wuxi city.
The Liangxi district features great location advantage, owning Wuxi's biggest commercial and transport center, subway hub and various passageways connecting the airport and railway stations.
The regional GDP turned out 100.99 billion yuan ($15 billion) in 2015, accounting for nearly 12 percent of the city's sum while only covering 1.5 percent of the total land area.
In November 2016, the Liangxi district was named the national all-for-one tourism demonstration plot by the National Tourism Administration.
