Expats celebrate Lantern Festival in Shenyang
Elena, a Russian teacher working at the Shenyang Science and Technology University, is having fun in a Chinese bridal sedan chair.

“I enjoyed the fair. I was really stunned when I saw a performer swallow a sword into his stomach,” she said.

The luckiest foreigner was Teddy, an engineer at the Shenyang Blower Works Group. He caught a colored silk ball (symbolizing a pledge of love) during a traditional wedding ceremony performance. According to Chinese folk tradition in some areas, the man who catches the silk ball tossed by a girl would become the girl's husband.
