Sino-German Ecopark, is a demonstration project of sustainable development, and the first ecopark jointly built by China and German, under the drive of Chinese and German governments. It is the first state-level comprehensive standardization demonstration park, and an important part of the Shandong peninsula Ocean-based economic development strategy and of Qingdao western coast new economic district development pattern. Sino-German Ecopark covers an area of 11.5 square kilometers, and the expansion area about 70 square kilometers.
Sino-German Ecopark is located to the west coast of the Jiaozhou bay of Shandong peninsula, which neighbors Jiaozhou expressway in the north, Small ZhuShan scenic spot in the east, and Wrangler mountain eco-channel in the north. The construction land of the park is mostly hilly lands boasting lush vegetation and rich water resources, and having Heluobu and Shanwangxi water reservoirs inside the park. The useful land resources around is rich, which provides broad space for development of Sino-German Ecopark. Furthermore, the peripheral development potential of the wind energy, solar energy and ocean energy is tremendous.
The park is 30 kilometers from Qingdao Liuting International Airport, and 40 kilometers from Qingdao executive business center. Around the park there is Tongsan expressway and Jiaozhou Bay expressway, so the transportation is convenient. There are front bay port and Dong Jiakou port surrounding the park. And the front bay port is China's second largest foreign trade port, and China's largest ore terminal and crude oil wharf, as well as China's third largest container port. In 2011, the handling capacity of the front bay port achieved 350 million tons, and the container 13 million TEU. So far the front bay port has established trade relations with more than 130 countries and regions.
Qingdao economic and technological development zone, where Sino-German Ecopark is located, is one of China's strongest economic and technological development zones, and also a district boasting the largest number of state-level and most functional parks with best policies in Shandong peninsula. Within the park, the western export processing zone, high and new technology industrial development experimental zone, Qingdao front bay bonded port area, and home appliance electronic industrial park are all state-level first-class zone. So far six industrial clusters of home appliance, petrochemical engineering, automotive manufacturing marine engineering and port logistics have been formed, with improved facilities. In addition, in the new round of Qingdao’s city overall plan, Qingdao will be endeavored to develop an economic zone on the west coast, in order to bring about the secondary take-off of Qingdao urban construction and economic development.
Qingdao aims to construct an "island city" of ecological diversity, and strives to combine industry and ecology, and determines reasonable space layout and construction capacity. The ecopark's volume rate is 0.65, and the planned total population of about 60,000 people. The industrial lands take up for 45%,roads and ecological green space 30%,and land for residential and public facilities 25%. It plans to introduce and develop green industries such as energy conservation, green energy, and environment-friendly and energy-saving building materials, high-end manufacturing industries like numerically-controlled machine tool, electric car and marine equipment, modern service industries such as R&D of science and technology, ecological urban construction planning , education and training and financial services.
